Changan Europe was formally incorporated in Turin, Italy, in 2006. It is a subsidiary wholly owned by Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Changan Automobile). It is also the first overseas R&D subsidiary set up by Changan Automobile, then Changan Japan, Changan England as well as Changan America R&D centres have subsequently been established. Changan Europe has become Changan Automobile’s research and development backbone.
Changan Automobile began operating in Italy in 2003. It integrated the sophisticated local vehicle design resources and cultivated and developed its own international design R&D team. Changan Europe’s permanent base, the studio, was put into formal operation in 2012. The aim of Changan Europe is to build up a complete car design centre, covering the activities such as advanced design, product design, surface modelling (CAS), modelling, design engineering and the management of the whole design process.
Changan Europe concentrates on building a Chinese-brand, talent- gathering hot-spot, with around 200 employees from 21 nations, including those come from traditional European manufacturers such as VW, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Ford, and more. At the same time, Changan Europe works hard to retain and train its workforce and has established good relationships with the global top design and engineering schools and institutes such as Pforzheim in Germany, the RCA in UK, Strate in France, IAAD and Politecnico in Italy, UMEA in Sweden as well as CCS in the USA.
Since 2003, Changan Europe and Changan Automobile other R&D teams worldwide have worked together to create classic products such as Benni, CS35, Eeado series, Alsvin V7, CS75, and more. In 2015, Changan Automobile became the leading brand in China for its annual production and sales over 1 million vehicles. Furthermore, various concept cars like the CS95 and Raeton CC, designed by Changan Europe, have won praise around the world with their stunning debuts at Frankfurt, Beijing and the Shanghai motor shows.
